The music industry has seen the emergence of all-kathoey groups like Venus Flytrap
In Thai television, lakorns (soap operas) have featured queer identities for decades. However, academia has noted a fascinating tension: while Thailand produces "highly visible gay men and so-called ladyboys," when these shows are exported to markets like China (where queer content is heavily censored), distributors often use dubbing and editing to "shift the representation... so that they can be understood as being straight characters". Domestically, however, characters have evolved from tragic figures or comic relief to more nuanced roles, such as the loving kathoey father in dramas like Prajan See Roong who raises an abandoned child.
Perhaps the most significant moment for the integration of Thai transgender talent into mainstream entertainment came in June 2024. —a Thai national—released her solo music video "Rockstar." The video prominently featured three influential Thai transgender influencers: Chinni, Bruze Kachi-Sarah, and Aëffy . This wasn't just a cameo; it was a full-blown celebration of Thai culture and the country's legalization of same-sex marriage earlier that same month. When American rapper Azealia Banks later aimed transphobic slurs at Lisa over the video, Thai fans fiercely defended the representation, showcasing the protective power of the fandom.
Outside of the beauty, arts, and entertainment sectors, corporate Thailand still presents glass ceilings and hiring biases against the community. Future Outlook of the Industry

When travelers think of Thailand, images of pristine beaches, ornate temples, and bustling street food stalls often come to mind. Yet, for decades, one of the Kingdom’s most potent cultural exports has been its vibrant and complex entertainment scene featuring kathoey — commonly known internationally as “ladyboys.” From glittering cabaret stages in Pattaya to chart-topping pop anthems and even Hollywood-style cinema, ladyboy Thai entertainment content has woven itself into the fabric of Southeast Asian popular media.

Cabaret shows are a staple of Thai tourism and entertainment. Shows like Tiffany’s Show Pattaya and Alcazar Cabaret are world-renowned, featuring incredibly polished performances, elaborate costumes, and talented performers. These venues are considered the pinnacle of stage performance for many trans performers.
Outside of scripted fiction, reality media and beauty pageants serve as major cultural touchstones for the Thai transgender community, turning contestants into national celebrities.
This article explores the vibrant landscape of Thai transgender entertainment, highlighting key figures, media trends, and the cultural shifts driving this visibility. 1. The Glamorous World of Thai Cabaret Shows
This direct-to-audience content has diversified representation dramatically. We now see kathoey farmers, doctors, engineers, and parents—not just entertainers. The narrative is no longer "what is a ladyboy?" but rather "what is this specific person’s life?" This shift toward authenticity and everydayness is arguably more radical than any film or TV show, as it decouples kathoey identity from the requirement to be either hilarious or heartbreaking. This wasn't just a cameo; it was a
The global popularity of Thai series (BL dramas like The Hidden Character or trans-inclusive stories) has also created a paradox: international fans celebrate progressive kathoey characters, but domestic ratings often favor more conservative portrayals. Thai media thus walks a tightrope between modern global expectations and local social realities.
For decades, Thai media primarily used kathoey as "comic relief" or depicted them through a lens of tragedy and bad karma. The First Wave : The 1985 film The Last Song

Looks like a cool build. Personally I hadn’t heard about Shaman King so I learned something knew. What I’m exited to see is Robin Hood using toxophilite or hooded champion ranger archetypes or some adventure time stuff.
If you look through the Iconic Design archives, I’ve done Princess Bubblegum and Ice King so far.
Added to my Iconic Design candidates list!
I’d really like to see build for the shieldmarshal PrC (Paths of Prestige). I assume a mix of ranger and gunslinger levels, but that might be a trap I’m not seeing.
Noted!
I can’t take, Weapon Focus: katana (1st), no BAB! or weapon proficiency! ???
You’re right that you can’t take it at 1st level (and the guide has been updated accordingly), but the weapon proficiency thing isn’t a problem. You can pick a feat whose prerequisites you meet only sometimes, for example, a barbarian with Strength 11 can take Power Attack even though she doesn’t qualify for it unless she’s raging. Similarly, you can pick Weapon Focus (katana) even though you only qualify for it when you’ve manifested your ancestral weapon as a katana.
If that ruling bothers you, you could also take the Heirloom Weapon trait and pick the katana. It’ll make you proficient with the katana as a two-handed weapon (since its martial), but not as a one-handed weapon (as that’s exotic). Alternatively, you could build Yoh as a dwarf or a kitsune, as those races have a 1/4 oracle favored class bonus that grants them proficiency with one weapon of their choice. Pick any weapon you want when you first take Weapon Focus at Level 3, then retrain the feat to the katana at Level 4 after you gain the bonus. (Of course, if you went dwarf or human, you’d lose one of the Extra Revelation abilities. I’d pick voice of the grave myself.)
I looked at doing this as a Kitsune, or Tengu, or Half-Elf. I think a Kitsune would work, I assume you would agree, I just need to stat it out.
I’m not familiar with that ruling? Nor would Heirloom Weapon work, for me, without that ruling.
